Soft Carnival Beignets

Mardi Gras and its carnival are coming to your kitchen to celebrate! Of course, they didn't come alone, but rather accompanied by delicious sweet treats... beignets!

Instructions

  • 1.   In a bowl, mix all the dry ingredients: sugar + flour + baking powder + vanilla sugar.
  • 2.   Add the eggs and mix well. If you have a food processor, feel free to use it with the paddle attachment instead of a whisk.
  • 3.   Now add the liquid ingredients: melted butter + milk. Mix vigorously until the batter is smooth.
  • 4.   Form a ball with your hands. On a floured work surface, roll it out using a rolling pin.
  • 5.   With a knife, draw diagonal lines from left to right.
  • 6.   Then make diagonal lines in the opposite direction, from right to left. This will give you diamond shapes.
  • 7.   Fry your diamond-shaped beignets in very hot oil. When they start to turn golden, flip them over. Once golden on both sides, remove them. You will see that this step will be very quick and won't take much time.
  • 8.   Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
  • 9.   Dust your beignets with powdered sugar and voilà!
