Tyropita (Greek Cheese Pie)

A traditional Greek dish made with feta cheese, simplified with excellent French puff pastry.

Instructions

  • 1.   Preheat the oven for 15 to 20 minutes at 200°C (400°F).
  • 2.   Cut the feta cheese into pieces and mash it with a fork.
    Beat the eggs / paprika / honey / sesame seeds / salt / pepper.
    Mix with the feta cheese.
  • 3.   Unroll the first pastry sheet into the baking dish.
    Spread the filling on top.
  • 4.   Open the second pastry sheet.
    Cut a circle about 1.5 - 2 cm (0.6 - 0.8 inches) smaller in diameter than the dish.
    Place the second pastry sheet on top of the filling.
    Seal the edges by folding the first pastry sheet over the second.
  • 5.   Brush with the egg yolk.
  • 6.   Bake for 30 minutes at 180°C (350°F).

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 400 g of feta
  • 1 pinch of paprika
  • 5 tablespoon of honey
  • 3 tablespoon of sesame seed
  • 2 tablespoon of thyme
  • salt (according to taste)
  • pepper (according to taste)
