2. In a pot of salted boiling water, cook the potatoes for 15 minutes over medium heat.
3. Meanwhile, wash and slice the mushrooms.
4. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper and sauté for 7 to 8 minutes, stirring.
5. Check the potatoes for doneness, then drain them. In the same pot, add the potatoes. Season with salt and pepper and pour in the milk. Using a fork or a potato masher, mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Keep warm.
6. Once the mushrooms are golden, add the pepper sauce. Continue cooking for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring.
7. Meanwhile, heat a drizzle of olive oil in a second pan over high heat. Add the beef steaks and grill them for 2 minutes on each side for medium-rare. Season with salt and pepper on both sides. Optional: add a knob of butter and continue cooking for 1 minute, basting the meat with butter.
8. Once the steaks are cooked, let them rest for 1 minute before slicing. Serve the homemade mashed potatoes on a plate with the beef steak and mushrooms in pepper sauce. Season to taste, and it's ready to serve!
