Five-Spice Beef Stir-Fry with Onions

Instructions

  • 1.   Cut the beef into very thin slices and set aside in a bowl. Slice the onion, then the chives and set aside. Season the beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, curry, and "five-spice". Mix well (with your hands!) and let marinate for 5 minutes.
  • 2.   Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large skillet. When the oil is hot (over high heat), sauté the onion for 1 minute (you should smell a subtle onion aroma).
  • 3.   Then add the seasoned beef and sauté until the meat is browned and still slightly pink (about 3 minutes... but no longer!! otherwise the meat will become tough).
  • 4.   Turn off the heat and continue to mix everything. Add the chives and salt (adjust to your taste). It's ready!

  • 1 onion
  • 2 stalk of chives
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon of 5 spices
