Ham, Cheese, and Zucchini Pasta Bake

Instructions

  • 1.   Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • 2.   In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the onion in 1 tablespoon of olive oil for 5 minutes. Add the ham and cook for 1 minute.
  • 3.   Pour in the cream, bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 6 minutes. Add the diced zucchini and continue cooking for 2 to 4 minutes, or until the mixture has reduced and slightly thickened. Season with pepper.
  • 4.   Cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water according to the package instructions. Drain and return to the pot.
  • 5.   Add the sauce to the pasta, along with roughly chopped basil and three-quarters of the cheese. Mix well and season to taste.
  • 6.   Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased baking dish, sprinkle with the remaining cheese, and bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

Notes & Suggestions

  • Make ahead: You can prepare this dish up to 12 hours in advance and refrigerate it before baking.
    Variation: Other pasta shapes such as spirals, bowties, fusilli, or macaroni can be used in this dish.

  • 1 zucchini
  • 400 g of conchiglione (conch shaped pasta)
  • 3 tablespoon of fresh basil
  • 250 g of cheddar
